Poker Power welcomed the incredible Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Chicago to the PEAK6 offices in the historic Board of Trade for an unforgettable Poker Power workshop. It was an afternoon filled with high stakes and high spirits as big and little matches teamed up to learn the game of poker and how its lessons can be the ace up your sleeve in school, at work, and everywhere in between.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is a nationwide organization that builds one-to-one mentoring relationships to help young people reach their potential. By matching kids, often from underserved communities, with caring adult mentors, they create lasting positive change through support and guidance. This mission aligns perfectly with Poker Power’s focus on building skills like critical thinking, resilience, and confidence.
The room buzzed with excitement and those unforgettable “aha” moments. One of our participants shared her revelation from a nail-biting showdown, losing to an opponent at the final card, otherwise known as “the river.” Instead of feeling defeat, she felt triumph knowing that even though she lost she played her cards right. Another participant uncovered how poker’s strategic lessons could level-up their leadership style in business meetings. By taking a step back and listening first, they could gather more insights and set a winning strategy, just like at the poker table.
These stories are just a taste of the amazing breakthroughs that happen when you learn poker. We were thrilled to play our part supporting Big Brothers and Big Sisters’ mission to spark the potential in every young person through one-to-one mentoring relationships. Here’s to powering your potential through poker!
