CBS Mornings Spotlights Poker Power

CBS Mornings cast Tony Dokoupil, Gayle King, and Nate Burleson

Poker is more than just a card game – it’s a powerful tool that can transform lives. But historically it’s a game that has predominantly been played by men. Jenny Just and Poker Power aim to change that by teaching 1 million women how to play poker. Poker Power’s work was highlighted in a recent CBS Mornings segment featuring an event at the University of Chicago. Students not only heard about Poker Power’s origins from Jenny Just, but also got to experience the game firsthand, learning from instructors like Lisa Pickell.

Why Poker?

As mentioned in the segment, poker requires taking risks and making decisions with incomplete information, and playing the game gives you the chance to practice those skills over and over again. The game blends analytical thinking and emotional control requiring players to read subtle cues, manage risk, and assert themselves strategically. These are valuable skills for women in both their personal and professional lives, where they often face unique challenges.
